When focusing on the security of their properties, people might wish to give some thought to the way in which their Window Blinds are angled, one firm has suggested, which could apply to owners of Wooden Venetian Blinds.

According to Ageas Insurance and the Neighbourhood Watch Trust, people could angle their blinds so that would-be thieves cannot see inside their homes but they can still see out of them to some extent.

Security pens could also be used to mark expensive items which people possess, the organisations suggested among their range of guidance.

The trust's chairman, Roy Rudham, commented that burglars could strike if people's homes are easy to get into.

He stated: "People should treat their homes like they treat their cars - don't leave valuables on show, lock the doors and make sure you are insured."

Visual burglar alarms are currently advocated by the Directgov site, which suggests these could form part of people's home security plans.
