Landlords may need to focus more of their attentions on energy efficient home improvements in the coming years, if new government plans go ahead.

As part of the coalition's proposals, from 2016 onwards, reasonable property improvements which tenants demand of landlords will need to be agreed to.

Chris Huhne, UK energy and climate change secretary, highlighted the fact that elements of the Green Deal could prove to be positive for landlords.

"The Green Deal is a win-win opportunity for landlords by removing the upfront cost of work to upgrade the property making it cheaper to run, more environmentally friendly and ultimately more attractive to rent," he said.

Landlords considering the installation of Roller Blinds in their homes may also be interested to note that John Alker, director of policy and communications at the UK Green Building Council, suggested that more certainty may be offered to landlords by the government's proposals.
