According to the latest HSBC Home Improvement Survey, new window installations, re-carpeting projects and new kitchen installations are included in its top ten list of popular tasks.
Room decorating came top of the firm's list of popular bank holiday jobs, meanwhile.
Following the publication of this research, HSBC's head of mortgages, Stuart Beattie, commented: "Householders should primarily do the work with the aim of creating a home they can live in and enjoy as there is no guarantee of increasing property value."
Price comparison site moneysupermarket.com recently published separate research which showed that bank holiday home improvements were due to cost 16 per cent of the country's homeowners money in April and May this year.
